What Are You Holding Back From God?
In this week’s sermon we examine two distinct encounters Jesus had as recorded in Matthew 19. First, we look at the rich young ruler, who approached Jesus asking what good deed he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus used this conversation to reveal that our goodness is not what saves us, and specifically addressed the area of the young man’s heart where his possessions held dominion, reminding us that we must be fully surrendered to God.
The sermon also contrasts this with the question posed by Peter, who asked what reward he and the other disciples would receive for forsaking everything to follow Christ. Through these interactions, we are challenged to consider what areas of our own lives we might be holding back from God’s lordship and to reflect on whether our relationship with Jesus is truly enough for us.
