Let Our Eyes Be Opened | Matthew 20
Pastor Rick continued our journey through Matthew with the story of two blind men outside Jericho who cried out to Jesus, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” Despite the crowd trying to silence them, they cried out all the more — and Jesus stopped, called them, and restored their sight. From this encounter, Pastor Rick outlined three steps in how God opens our spiritual eyes. Step one is that initial prompting — the restlessness and emptiness that signals something’s missing, that God-sized hole only He can fill. Step two is God sending a witness — just as Jesus met those men on the road, God places people in our lives to open the Scriptures and help us understand the gospel. Salvation is when a seeking Savior meets a seeking sinner.
Step three is the decisive move from merely believing in Jesus to surrendering your life and following Him. The healed men didn’t just walk away — they followed. Pastor Rick reminded us that while we can’t save anyone, we have the privilege to share the gospel and be someone else’s step two. For those whose eyes are already open, the call is to stay engaged in God’s work — seeking things above, joining in the ministry of reconciliation, and living as followers, not just believers. As Colossians 3 reminds us, “Set your minds on things that are above… for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
