We Found Something Special in Jesus | Matthew 13:44-58
1. Read Galatians 2:19-20. In light of this text, is being “crucified with Christ” a one-time event at salvation, or a decision we are commanded to make every single morning?
2. In these parables, the characters sell everything they have to get the treasure. Why do you think Jesus used such an extreme theme, and what does that “selling out” look like when lived out today?
3. Is it harder for someone who grew up in a Christian home to recognize their true dependency on Jesus? For those raising kids, how do we ensure they understand faith isn’t inherited, but personally chosen?
4. Read Genesis 12:1-3. Why did the nation of Israel misinterpret this as an exclusive covenant? Do you think we still struggle with treating God’s grace like an “exclusive club” today?
5. Read Romans 4:1-5. What does it mean that we are justified by faith and not by works? Why are these verses so important for us to understand?
6. Each of the people in these parables were actively looking for something. How do we maintain a desire to keep growing in our spiritual maturity? Do you ever find yourself passively living instead of actively searching?
7. What do you feel is the biggest ‘cost’ when it comes to following Jesus? Where do you feel like it costs you the most?
